Who’s doomed?

-

Following on from your report on the Scottish economy’s “Merchants of Doom” (7 July), may I add my own comment about the longer-term doomsters who keep propagating the myth that we are “running out of oil”. Of course in the long run oil is finite, but over a 150year timeframe, not a 30-year period.

In any case, the Stone Age did not end because we ran out of stone. It’s because we moved on technologically. Likewise, Scotland has an unusual opportunity as a nation to invest and develop the alternatives – wind, wave, hydro and even solar – so that it remains a world class energy entity.

I am fed up with the doomsters and the cynics on Scotland’s oil, especially those who preach from within the secular pulpits of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Glasgow. They should know better.
