Body pulled from famous loch after rescue operation

● Emergency services alerted over swimmer

A young swimmer has died after getting into difficulty in Loch Lomond.

A major rescue operation was launched at lunchtime yesterday after the alarm was raised with the police.

A boat that was in the area helped out at the scene about three miles north of Luss, near Culag, in Argyll and Bute, until the emergency services arrived.

A spokeswoma­n for Police Scotland said: “Police can confirm that the body of a young man aged 20 was recovered after being found in the waters at Loch Lomond at about 3:35pm. Officers have been stood down at the scene. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

A Scottish Ambulance service spokesman added: “Police called the Scottish Ambulance Service around 1:37pm to attend an incident at Luss near Loch Lomond. We dispatched one paramedic, one ambulance, one trauma team, a special operations team and a medical helicopter to assist.”

A21-year-oldmandied­inajet ski accident on Loch Lomond in May. Stuart Mclevy fell off a jet ski he was riding as a passenger. The 37-year-old who was driving the jet ski was also injured in the incident, just north of the island of Inchmurrin.

Other people who were on the water at the time are said to have rushed to the aid of the men and pulled them to the shore at the Duncan Mills Memorial Slipway, in Balloch, where they were treated by paramedics.

But Stuart could not be helped and was pronounced dead at the Royal Alexandria Hospital in Paisley.
