#EDHOGMANAY
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay party is to be turned into a six-hour street carnival after new organisers called in one of the key figures involved in the spectacular ceremonies at the London Olympics. @Weareelastic said: “A carnival? More fireworks? Sounds like the new #edhogmanay is going to be right up our street” @its_dishdawg added: “So I agree the #edhogmanay needed an overhaul. Regardless of what company stages it etc blah blah. New plans look decent. I’m listening” @rhona_deb offered: “Plans for #edhogmanay 2018 sound amazing! Especially #Scotword to engage young people” @Reddingdylan commented: “I didn’t realise it was possible to make Edinburgh Hogmanay any worse”
#SECURITYROBOT
A security robot in Washington DC “drowned” after falling into a fountain by an office building. @bilalfarooqui said: “Our DC office building got a security robot. It drowned itself. We were promised flying cars, instead we got suicidal robots” @candiedpink joked: “This is not a laughing matter, suicide is a serious issue, he should’ve been in therapy, why wasn’t anyone helping him, was he listened to?” @markverone added: “Robot suicide? Anyone feeling sad for the machine that drowned itself? When we start caring about the robot’s feelings, humanity is doomed!” @Dflenick added: “Sure, we laugh now but wait until the robot uprising and we’re being drowned by them”

Austen will be the only woman to feature on a Bank of England banknote aside from the Queen, but the quote chosen to go with the picture has attracted attention. “I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading” was said by one of her characters, Caroline Bingley, who hated reading. @Samiraahmeduk said: “Dear news: that J Austen ‘quote’ about joy of reading on the new tenner is uttered by one of her most obnoxious characters – ironically, it’s ironic” @Imogengblake added: “Caroline Bingley declares there’s ‘no enjoyment like reading’ – and then immediately puts her book down.” @jessicaelgot said: “Can no one do anything right? Even a good intended thing”
