Dementia charity urges caution over collections

- By SHÂN ROSS

A leading Scottish dementia charity has warned supporters that it has not authorised a door-to-door donations drive.

Anne Devine, director of fundraising and marketing at Alzheimer Scotland, said it does not make unsolicited approaches.

Ms Devine was speaking after the charity became aware of collectors involved in door-todoor and street collections, carried out by third party companies on behalf of a dementia charity, over the past few months.

“We do not solicit donations by ‘cold calling’ by telephone or door-to-door collections, and we do not share personal information provided to us with any other organisation. We never pressure anyone to make a donation and take particular care to avoid asking vulnerable people for donations,” she said.
