Double standards

-

We have come so far in society and journalism now reflects our acceptance of diversity and otherness on such things as gender, sexuality and religious preference, but somehow news cannot bring itself to report accurately or fairly on countries like Russia and China.

The recent news piece on a crane collapsing in China ended with the statement that “work safety is a major concern in China, where regulations are often ignored”.

Given the tragedy of Grenfell Tower, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised to read something like this in the China Daily: “The UK has lax planning lawsandoftencutscostswhen dealing with the poor and vulnerable and 100 poor people aren’t considered to be a vote loser for the main party.”
