Petrie rues lack of time for his squad to prepare

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Montrose play their fourth and final Betfred Cup game against Alloa at Links Park with manager Stewart Petrie glad that their injury-hit campaign is coming to an end.

Petrie’s side have lost 14 goals in three defeats and failed to score. He said: “The group has been great in terms of helping us prepare. However, playing twice a week with a weakened squad has been difficult.

“We have also not had much time to work with the players in terms of putting into practice what we have learned. Hopefully against Alloa we will get our first goal and points and then having a free weekend to go over things.”

Alloa manager jim goodwin has set his players the target of finishing their Group D campaign with seven points. The Wasps took just one point from games against Ross County and Arbroath and he is looking for a six-point haul from their games against Montrose and then Hibs.

Goodwin said: “Seven points will not be enough to qualify and it may not be enough get into second place but it is a good target. To get there we need to beat Montrose and to do that we need to be more creative than we have been so far.

“If we can win at Links Park, we set ourselves up very nicely for facing Hibs at the weekend.”
