Footballer faces trial over cyclist ‘hit and run’

- By ASHLIE MCANALLY

Former Partick Thistle player Ade Azeez is to stand trial for hitting a cyclist and driving off.

The 23-year-old striker allegedly drove dangerously on Haggs Road near Craigholme Sports Complex on 24 October, 2016.

Prosecutors claim Azeez, now signed to Cambridge United, drove too fast for the road conditions and undertook cars.

It is alleged he “failed to react to Robert Mckelvie, a cyclist on the road and did strike his bicycle with your motor vehicle, causing the wing mirror to fall off ”.

Papers from Glasgow Sheriff Court further allege that Azeez then did “continue to drive at speed and fail to stop to check on the welfare of Mr Mckelvie”.

The case called for a pretrial hearing at the court yesterday where Azeez was not present but was represented. Sheriff Ian Miller continued the case to trial later this month.
