Give thanks
What a wonderfully explicit letter from Lynne Arnott you printed (26 July).
We of the immediate postwar generation are the lucky ones, having been able to bring up our children in relatively peaceful years, grateful to our parents and their generation. These are the children who are now working in ways of prolonging life and improving well-being, both physical and mental, for all of us. If it were not for our generation (possible future “bed-blockers”, etc) there would be no researchers, no practitioners and no caring professions in general. If it were not for these two generations and the present generation benefiting all, life would be “not as we know it”.
