New House rules
In his Scotsman 200 article on Lords reform (26 July), Tim Flinn was off to a good start but was unrealistic in his way of choosing a new House.
It is vital that the new House is independent of the control of the political parties that rule the Commons. Ireland gives us a good example, its Senate is not elected and is independent of the lower house. Different sections of Ireland choose their representatives, for example farmers, trade unions and lawyers.
