County out to make amends after last season’s early exit

-

Craig Curran is looking for Ross County to right a Betfred Cup wrong when they take on Arbroath today.

The Highland club won their first piece of major silverware in 2016 by beating Hibernian 2-1 in the final of the competition at Hampden Park. However, the Staggies’ defence of the trophy was meek to say the least as they failed to get out of the group stages last season.

However, Jim Mcintyre’s side have begun this Betfred Cup campaign in fine form, taking eight points from three Group D matches and are looking to clinch a place in the knockout stages at Gayfield Park this afternoon. County striker Curran, 27, who has notched three times in three games, said: “It’s been a good start. Obviously we are group leaders now, we need to take care of business on Saturday and then obviously we are through.

“We need to put that right from last year. So it has been a good start, something we can build on. It was a tough one to take last season but these things happen. I said at the end of last season that we would come back with the bit between our teeth and I think we have done that.

“We have been putting in some good performances and we will be looking to build on that.”
