Morrisons serves the weather up on a platter

- By MARTIN FLANAGAN

Morrisons is to display weekly localised barbecue forecasts in its near-500 stores to help shoppers plan their spending amid the vagaries of the UK summer.

The supermarket chain, which has 60 Scottish outlets, said it followed research which found that 58 per cent of Britons don’t know the weather forecast when doing their regular food shop.

“Working with Metraweather, a leader in provid- ing weather information services, to provide the forecasts, all Morrisons stores will keep shoppers up to date on the weather as they shop,” a spokesman said.

“The weekend weather forecasts will be placed at front of store each Thursday for the duration of the summer holidays to help customers buy the rightfoodfortheweekendand to reduce food waste.

“Without these, many customers find themselves returning to stores if the weather is unexpectedly good or bad.”
