Tayside rivals braced for another derby clash as cup draw pairs them together again

-

0 Neil Lennon: Date with Ayr. Dundee and Dundee United will face each other again in the Betfred Cup after being paired together at Dens Park.

United secured a place among the seeds with a penalty shoot-out win following a 1-1 draw at their neighbours’ ground.

The teams were the last two out of the pot moments later as the second-round draw took place live on BT Sport. That game will also take place at Dens Park.

Betfred Cup holders Celtic will be at home to Kilmarnock, while Rangers also got a home draw against Dunfermline, who saw off Hearts on Saturday.

Remarkably, this is the 12th cup draw in succession in which Rangers have been given a home tie.

Neil Lennon’s newly-promoted Hibernian, who leapfrogged Ross County with their 3-0 victory at Alloa Athletic on Saturday to finish top of Group D, will host League 1 side Ayr United, who upstaged their Ayrshire rivals Kilmarnock by taking maximum points from their four games in Group E.

St Johnstone are at home to Partick Thistle, while Aberdeen will travel to Hamilton.

Seeded Motherwell – who also took maximum points from their group games – were given a difficult tie against 2016 winners Ross County in Dingwall, while there will be an allchampionship tie at Falkirk – another 100 per cent side – where Livingston will be the visitors.

The matches will take place on 8-9 August.
