Tournament triumph for undefeated young Scots

-

Hamilton Accies’ Andrew Winter was denied an opening goal after 11 minutes when he found the net only to be ruled offside.

Goalkeeper Robbie Hemphrey, who is attached to Motherwell, produced a brilliant reflex save on the half-hour to preserve his unbeaten record in the tournament, and the Scots eventually took the lead after 51 minutes through Hearts’ Connor Smith, who ran on to an neatly-lobbed through ball by Aberdeen’s Connor Barron and scored.

Celtic’s 14-year-old wonderkid Karamoko Dembele, who had come on as a substitute and run riot against Qatar, lined up from the start on this occasion and scored Scotland’s second goal from the penalty spot on 70 minutes after Motherwell’s Cole Starrs had been bundled over by the Uruguayan goalkeeper.

Dembele almost had a second when he fired a 25-yard drive just over the crossbar.
