Film star Moreau dies aged 89
French actress Jeanne Moreau, whose seven-decade career included work with Francois Truffaut, Orson Welles, Wim Wenders and other acclaimed directors, has died aged 89.
The French president’s office announced her death in a statement without providing a cause.
Ms Moreau, perhaps best known for her performance in Truffaut’s 1962 film Jules et Jim, continued working well into her eighties. During her career she won awards at the Cannes Film Festival and an honorary Oscar.
President Emmanuel Macron hailed the star for her deep range and praised her political activism.
