Since its incorporation in April last year, Beer For Good CIC has seen its turnover increase from £120,000 to £660,000, creating 19 jobs with employees passing more than 130 courses certified by the British Institute of Innkeepers (BII).
In the last year, both Harry’s Bar and Southside Social have been announced as winners of BII Best New Initiative 2017.
Thewlis is also the co-founder of Ginerosity, the world’s first social enterprise gin. He is a board member of Social Enterprise Scotland.
The other board member of Beer for Good CIC, which also runs Café 4 Good in Edinburgh’s Drumbrae area, are David Moore, a drinks industry and export specialist, director of Craft Beer Clan of Scotland and Fusion Whisky Limited and co-founder of Ginerosity; Graham Langley, a finance industry expert, investor, and business developer; and Mike Cristhopherson, a successful entrepreneur and hospitality industry specialist.
West end institution Harry’s Bar – a staple of the capital’s night-time economy since the 1980s – opened in its rejuvenated format as a social enterprise in July of last year.
