Fugitive still at large after weeks of manhunt

- By RUSSELL JACKSON

A “dangerous” fugitive remains in hiding weeks after police launched a manhunt to speak to him over the death of a young father.

Jordan Owen has not been traced by detectives probing the death of Jamie Lee, 22, in the Castlemilk area of Glasgow. They issued an appeal with a picture of Owen, 23, two weeks ago and urged the public not to approach him.

But so far officers have not managed to catch-up with Owen and Police Scotland confirmed that they are still looking for him.

Jamie Lee died earlier last month after he was shot and several others were injured during a mass brawl.

Police investigating the incident, which happened at a play area in the South Side estate, have so far made several arrests.

Three teenagers were arrested in connection with assault. They have already appeared in court. And a 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with a serious assault. Six UK theme park rides have been closed following an incident on a similar ride in the US in which a teenager died.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said five rides were reinspected and temporarily taken out of use after the incident at an Ohio fair on 26 July

A sixth ride in North Yorkshire was immediately taken out of use by the operator independently of the HSE.

Tyler Jarrell, an 18-year-old student, died when a swinging and spinning ride broke apart. Seven other people were injured, some critically.

An HSE spokeswoman said: “There is no verified information regarding the immediate cause of the US accident. “As a result, on Friday 28 July an enforcement notice was served on five of the machines.”
