The Scotsman

Plugs for all!

-

Alex Salmond’s show at the Fringe is apparently now a sell-out, largely assisted by the articles in The Scotsman and other papers about it. This is a form of advertising/marketing which lesser-known performers can only dream about, although one or two are fortunate enough to get perhaps one article about their show.

Spare a thought, therefore, for the vast majority of performers who struggle to raise sufficient finance to really promote their show. My son Gavin is an example of such actors. He has his own oneman show, Robert Burns: Rough Cut, at the Scottish Storyytelling Centre, but can only afford a modest amount of advertising /marketing. He has performed it previously and I have never met anyone who did not thoroughly enjoy it, but the audiences do not do it justice, as is the case with many other shows.

So ex-mp Alex Salmond’s Edinburgh Fringe show is sold out. Excellent. Hopefully he develops a taste for light entertainment, does everyone a favour and abandons his political comeback dreams.
