Suspicious fire at football ground

Vandals have caused tens of thousands of pounds of damage in a suspicious fire at a football stadium.

The blaze at Hamilton Academical Football Club’s ground in the town’s Cadzow Avenue was discovered at around 2:30am yesterday.

The fire caused “significant damage” to two metal containers in the ground which held specialist equipment, police said.

Officers reviewing CCTV footage have established the fire was started at about 1:50am.
