1. EU students and academics who spend two years or more abroad studying, training or for career developmen­t should not lose their settled status. 2. Having a simplified applicatio­n process. 3. Using existing data to identify those eligible for temporary leave or settled status. 4. Those with permanent residence should be transferre­d automatica­lly to settled status. 5. Keeping cost of applicatio­ns minimal, and no more than the cost of permanent residency (£65). 6. Government to develop clear guidance to employers in consultati­on with sectors employing EU nationals. 7. The cut-off date should be the date the UK leaves the EU, thus allowing organisati­ons and individual­s to plan accordingl­y. 8. Students starting courses this year and next to be assured they can remain and work in the UK after finishing their courses and be eligible for settled status after clocking up residence of five years. 9. Clarity on the rights of families to stay together in the UK to minimise uncertaint­y. 10. Cross-border recognitio­n of profession­al qualificat­ions obtained in the UK or EU before UK withdrawal.
