Accountancy giant PWC and technology incubator Codebase have teamed up in a bid to boost Scotland’s scale-up community.

They have launched Scale: Edinburgh, a partnership looking to firm up the capital’s reputation as a modern business hub.

Coming as part of a wider portfolio of programmes across the UK, they said the ten-week programme “will identify and accept a cohort of 12 of Scotland’s best scale-ups and help them gain traction, source commercial opportunities and additional funding”.

It aims to provide the “missing link” between corporates looking to innovate and companies aiming to scale by givingaccesstokeynamesatpwc and other large organisations.

Participants will undergo a business development curriculum, receive advice on subjects such as tax, research and development, legal and PWC areas of specialism as well as get access to Codebase’s expert contacts and the combined professional network.

Douglasshand, headofinnovation for PWC in Scotland, said Scale: Edinburgh aims to tackle the issue of many companies not achieving their ambitions “because they didn’t have the right advice at the right moments”.

He explained: “While we are hosting this in Edinburgh, it’s not purely about the capital. We hope to see involvement from companies and experts from Glasgow, Dundee, Stirling, Aberdeen and elsewhere.”

Stephen Coleman, chief executive of Codebase, said: “We know how well the Scottish scene is doing at the moment – it’s great to be part of something that empowers companies to navigate potential hurdles and helps them to develop their full potential.”
