CHILD CAR SEATS RECALLED AFTER TEST FAILURES

-

Two child seats from manufacturer Recaro have been recalled after testing revealed they pose a potential safety risk to young passengers.

The company has issued a full recall of its Recaro Optia car seat and a partial recall of the Recaro Zero.1 seat.

The Optia has been recalled after testing by consumer body Which? revealed that the seat could detach from its Isofix base in the event of a crash.

Recaro said that despite being unable to replicate the problem in its own testing it was recalling all Optia seats and removing it from sale in the interests of customer safety. Customers who have bought one of the seats are being asked to return it to Recaro, who will replace it.

The firm is also recalling a specific batch of the Zero.1 seat after in-house testing found a problem in the restraint system.

In the affected seats, the belts that hold the child in the seat could become loose under certain conditions. This loosening of the belts is attributed to an error in the production of the belt adjuster and could lead to a safety risk in seats used facing the direction of travel.

Customers who own one of the affected Zero.1 seats can apply to receive a new seat free of charge. Until the replacement model arrives, the old seat should only be used in the rear-facing position.

Customers can check if their seat is affected by either recall by visiting the manufacturer’s site – www. recaro-cs.com – where they will also find more details about the replacement process. Alternatively, they can call 0800 0830 128 between 5am to 9pm.
