UK hacker hero arrested in US
Marcus Hutchins, the British cyber-security researcher hailed as hero for halting the Wannacry ransomware attack in May, was due to appear in court in Las Vegas last night after he was arrested on suspicion of selling and maintaining a separate strain of malware known as Kronos.
The 23-year-old from Devon was arrested by FBI agents at Las Vegas airport as he was leaving for the UK.
Hutchins had been attending the annual Def Con hacking conference, which attracts thousands of hackers.
