The Edinburgh Musical Society
Hidden among the starrier musical content of the Edinburgh International Festival’s opening week is a gem of a concert celebrating the recent refurbishment of Scotland’s first proper concert venue, the 18th century St Cecilia’s Hall. Peter Whelan’s Ensemble Marsyas play music by Barsanti, Handel, Arne and Gluck, composers familiar to the hall’s original patrons, The Edinburgh Musical Society.
