#USAINBOLT American Justin Gatlin bested Usain Bolt and Christian Coleman to win gold in the 100m dash at the World Athletics Championships in London. @amarjourno tweeted: “Justin Gatlin gets the Gold medal. The least popular result in London since Brexit.” @piersmorgan opined: “Irksome to see the great Usain Bolt bow out with defeat to a serial drugs cheat.” @Freddieburns felt the same, adding: “Fuming that Gatlin won! Shouldn’t even be racing!” @beckycampsall said: “The booing is horrible. Do the crowd not realise Gatlin isn’t the only athlete to ever fail a test?”
#PUTIN Photos and videos from the Russian president’s two-day Siberian vacation, where he spent time hiking and camping, did not go unnoticed. Neither did his bare torso. @Newsweek reported: “Ladies (and gentlemen) it’s that time of year... Summer is here and Putin is topless, again.” @27khv tweeted: “Vladimir Putin has been taking a short holiday in Tuva, southern Siberia. And it seems he left all his shirts behind in Moscow.” @TIME noted: “Donald Trump had a rough week. Putin went sunbathing.”
#NORTHKOREA The UN Security Council unanimously voted to impose new sanctions on North Korea over its two long-range missile tests. Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi met his North Korean counterpart yesterday in Manila, where he said he urged him to abide by the UN’S resolutions. @UKUN_NEWYORK stated: “The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted resolution on further sanctions on North Korea. $1 billion in new export bans.” @realdonaldtrump exclaimed: “The United Nations Security Council just voted 15-0 to sanction North Korea. China and Russia voted with us. Very big financial impact!” @Jerometaylor said: “Even North Korea’s most staunch ally China backed the sanctions, an indication of how isolated Pyongyang is over its nuclear programme.” @Pdchina reported: “Chinese FM Wang Yi on new @UN resolution against DPRK: Sanctions are needed, but by no means the ultimate goal.”
