Calls for memorial to dead bridge workers

- By STEPHEN MCILKENNY

A petition has been launched to have a memorial placed on the Queensferry Crossing to commemorate workers who died during its construction.

Two men perished during the building of the newest bridge to cross the Firth of Forth, and calls have been made to have an honour plaque installed, similar to those seen on the Forth Bridge. The petition which was created by disability campaigner Martin Keatings, has already collected more than 200 signatures on Change.org.

Mr Keatings, of Cairneyhill, Fife, has urged the Scottish Government to commission a plaque to immortalise those that died.

He wrote: “It would be more fitting for the families of those men to at least be offered a role in the opening of the new bridge.”
