Wings clipped
It is no surprise that Stuart Campbell of Wings Over Scotland finds himself embroiled in the latest round of infighting in the Scottish independence movement.
He has worked hard to cultivate an image which for some represents the unacceptable face of the Yes campaign, and has made himself a darling of hardline separatists in the process.
Among other things he has developed a quick draw when it comes to litigating with those who dare to call him out, so reinforcing the sense that there can be a cost in Scotland today in expressing an opinion that does not fit the model of nationalist certainty.
It is time perhaps for all those who have Scotland’s best interests at heart, and that of course includes the vast majority of the independence movement, to wonder if when it comes to our common problems, no matter where we stand politically, Mr Campbell’s approach might be more a part of the cause than of any credible solution.
