Sadness that unlike Mo Farah’s triumphant run the night before, victory was not to be his on the track, though his was through the adulation he received from the crowd for his contributi­on to athletics.

The mixed emotion, for me, was in trying to come to terms with how a twice convicted drug cheat was even on the track, far less receiving the gold medal.

I had to check that this was the same sport that had banned a whole nation from competing, no doubt including some innocent athletes.

I am all for forgivenes­s but expect those forgiven to reform and put something back to the sport. What role models are we parading for future generation­s!
