‘Going for a smear test saved my life’

- By SHÂN ROSS

Kirsty Solman, 35, says her life was saved by going for a routine cervical smear test last January.

“Without that test and the treatment I found out I needed my son Kyle, six, would have been left without a mother and my husband Scott would have lost me,” said Ms Solman, a nurse from Glasgow.

“I had never missed a smear test and when I was called back wasn’t worried because I thought it was maybe just a few wee changes.

“It ended up the cells had already turned cancerous but they didn’t what stage it was at.”

After finding out she had stage 1b1 cancer Ms Solman decided to have a hysterectomy.”

“Women will gladly go and get ‘down there’ waxed and pierced so they shouldn’t be embarrassed to go for a smear test.”
