Mccann left frustrated by inability to take chances

-

Dundee manager Neil Mccann thinks Scott Allan’s penalty miss epitomised what was a bad day at the office for his side against Hamilton.

The Dark Blues slumped to the bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership after a difficult afternoon in Lanarkshire confirmed their second defeat on the bounce in the league.

Mccann said: “Whether it was a penalty or not, I know there was a wee bit of deliberation, it did just sum it up. You don’t even hit the target.

“You can’t keep giving goal starts, like we did against Ross County. We finished strong in that game.

“I can’t be too hard on them in terms of rolling over and surrendering because they didn’t. They kept going and they kept pushing, and creating chances but if you don’t take chances, you get nothing.

“We came down here last year and got battered 4-0 and I was angry. I questioned them and said that we didn’t leave a glove on them.

“But I can’t really say that. I thought their attitude and their will to work and do what I asked them to do in the second half was very good.”

However, the manager promised that his players will be made to work hard on the training pitch to stamp out the basic errors that have cost the team points in their opening two Premiership fixtures.

Hamilton forwards Steven Boyd and Rakish Bingham got behind the backline on several occasions in the first half, while Darian Mckinnon was given the space to influence the game from midfield.

Mccann said: “I’m so frustrated and angry at the two goals we lost, It’s a cheap goal at a set-piece.

“The second goal is the one that really tips us over as a coaching staff because we have worked very hard on that very move to eradicate that space he runs into.”
