Mccall pleased as Ayr win despite tired legs

-

Ayr United bounced back from their Betfred Cup mauling at the hands of Hibernian in midweek to see off Forfar 3-0 at Somerset Park and remain proudly at the top of League 1.

The Honest Men, who were defeated 5-0 at Easter Road on Tuesday, took the lead after 34 minutes when Craig Moore knocked the ball in after his penalty had been saved by Marc Mccallum.

Declan Mcdaid quickly added a second and Robbie Crawford’s solo goal nine minutes from time ended Forfar’s resistance.

Ayr boss Ian Mccall said: “There were some tired legs out there. We can play better but it was a deserved win.”

Raith Rovers secured their first win with a 3-0 success over visitors Stranraer, Lewis Vaughan netting the opener just before half-time. Greig Spence doubled Raith’s lead just after the hour mark and Vaughan tapped in the third shortly afterwards.

Arbroath sit on the same four-point mark as the Kirkcaldy side after a 1-1 draw at Airdrie.

Omar Kader lashed the Gayfield men ahead before halftime, but Andy Ryan curled home an equaliser at the start of the second half.

East Fife picked up their first win with Greg Hurst’s six-yard strike on 56 minutes seeing off Alloa 1-0.

Albion Rovers romped to a 5-2 success at Queen’s Park where Alan Trouten and Connor Shields hitt doubles after Jason Marr cancelled out Sean Burns’s opener for the Spiders.

Thomas Orr headed in a late second for the hosts who remain without a point after two outings.
