Cider with Bessie

-

The apples turning colour on the trees in my neighbour’s garden remind me of late summer incident reported in the southern newspapers when I lived in London.

A lady from a village in Kent said she had been woken in the early hours of the morning by the sound of a huge splash which appeared to come from her garden.

She discovered a cow from next door’s farm had managed to get into her orchard, become tipsy from eating the (fermented) apples on the ground, and fallen into her swimming pool.

Removing the hung-over bovine intruder required a travelling crane and entertained the village for the whole of the next day. (REV DR) JOHN CAMERON
