Egging us on

-

So much for co-operation among european union member-states, never mind their regulatory effectiveness when millions of fresh eggs have to be cleared from supermarket shelves over contamination fears. It is worrying, too, that the Netherlands – a more responsible state – was the origin of the egg contamination by an insecticide which can be harmful to human health, and that the problem was known about months ago.

Besides safety, this is surely a wake-up call for the UK to produce more of its own eggs and not rely on cross-channel imports which have even affected salad sandwiches and quiches – and reduce carbon imprints too!
