Bank on Creme to rise to the top at Salisbury

● Haggas’ young hope to make most of drop in class

Three-year-olds have an excellent record in the British Stallion Studs EBF Upavon Fillies’ Stakes at Salisbury and Coconut Creme can add to it this season.

The Classic generation have won six of the last ten renewals of the Listed contest and William Haggas’ youngster will appreciate the drop in class. In receipt of 7lb from her elders, she ran with credit in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot last time out, finishing nearly seven lengths back in seventh.

It seemed a mile and a half just stretched her stamina, so the ten furlongs she faces here should be more to her liking.

The Cape Cross filly had the misfortune to bump into Shutter Speed on her only race at two and she then broke her maiden at Beverley first time out this season. Upped to Listed class next time, she only gave best to the promising Mori, who subsequently went close in the Ribblesdale herself. As a half-sister to a Group One winner in Sultanina, if she can register a Listed win herself, she becomes a very valuable proposition.

Haggas has very strong claims of a double as Strategist goes in the first division of the British EBF Molson Coors Novice Stakes.

This Shamardal colt, owned by the Queen, shaped nicely in fourth when behind Mythical Magic at Ascot on debut.

The Charlie Applebytrained winner has since claimed a French Listed race, so the form looks pretty strong. Strategist holds a Mill Reef entry and he should appreciate the sounder surface.

Michael Dods is enjoying a fine summer and his Barwell looks worth following until beaten. Winner of his last two, Barwell lines up in the Jill Willows Handicap over ten furlongs at Beverley. Having shaped with promise on several occasions, he opened his account off just 65 at Ripon in June but had no trouble following up off a 6lb higher perch at Haydock. Up another 8lb, he has been given plenty of time to strengthen up and there looks to be more to come.

Appleby’s juveniles have mopped up this season and Expressiy should take all the beating in the O’ Halloran & O’brien/british Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Kempton.
