Massive fire destroys miners’ welfare club

A former miners’ welfare centre and bowling club has been destroyed by a huge fire.

A team of 40 firefighters were needed to bring the blaze under control at Denbeath Bowling Club in Buckhaven, Fife, on Wednesday afternoon.

No-one was injured in the fire but police warned local residents to keep windows closed due to the smoke.

The building was closed in 2013 due to rising maintenance costs.
