Off the grid

-

There is currently 12,000 MW of generation plant on the Scottish Grid to meet a maximum winter demand of only 5,000 MW. Can any member of the 29 companies who wrote to RSPB Scotland (your report, 16 August) explain to the 40 per cent of Scots living in fuel poverty how the offshore NAG plant can “generate enough green energy to power all the homes in a city the size of Edinburgh” when there is already 9,000 MW of over-capacity on the Scottish Grid ?

Note also that the article failed to mention how the £2 billion project can make a profit if the wind farm merely adds to the over-capacity in Scotland. Who will foot the bill for plant that will always be surplus to requirements and why did Holyrood give precedence in capital spending over that required for Education or the NHS?
