Fear blamed for protesters’ rise
A century of “white western culture” is to blame for supremacists and alt-right protesters in America feeling oppressed, threatened and slighted, one of the US’S leading black comics has claimed.
Speaking at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, Reginald D Hunter said demonstrators were “due some mercy” because they had been told white people were “the greatest” for so long. He said a lot of bravado, anger and racism was down to “a fear that they would be made extinct.”
Hunter added: “So much of white western culture over the last 100 years has a lot to answer for, for making these men on the alt-right think they ought to be constantly represented at the highest level.”
