Major search for body in river stood down
A search launched after reports of a body being seen in a river has been stood down by police.
The search followed a call from a member of the public at 10:55am yesterday who believed they had seen a body in the River Nith at St Michael’s Bridge in Dumfries.
A major search of the river was launched involving fire crews, the coastguard and police, but officers later said the operation had been stood down.
A spokesman said: “There will now be a watching brief on the area over the coming hours and days.”
