Europe

- Joyce Mcmillan

It’s 23 years since David Greig’s play Europe first appeared at the Traverse in Edinburgh, chronicling the tensions that were sweeping across our continent five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Yet two decades on, the play seems even more timely, as it explores the potential conflict between vulnerable refugees in search of better lives, and those in a small central European town who feel left behind by rapid economic change. Now, Europe receives a long overdue Scottish professional revival at Pitlochry; artistic director John Durnin fields a cast of eight led by Cameron Johnson, Alan Steele and Rebecca Elise, with design by Becky Minto. In repertoire at Pitlochry Festival Theatre, 24 August until 13 October, 01796 484626
