Allen lays down impressive marker for Watsonians
Michael Allen showed that he is likely to be a key player for Watsonians this season with a hat-trick of tries in the preseason win at Tynedale on Saturday.
The former Edinburgh Rugby centre led the way in the 38-21 victory in the north-east of England, also kicking two conversions. Mark Bertram, Mike Fedo and Ewan Fox also scored tries, with the latter adding two conversions. Boroughmuir, who had impressed in their own round robin event the previous week, won 55-7 at Dundee HSFP.
Glasgow Hawks put in a good performance on the road at Blaydon as they continued their preparation for the new season with a 39-33 win.
The match was being played as a curtain raiser to the Newcastle Falcons v Rotherham Titans clash and it was very entertaining.
