Allen lays down impressive marker for Watsonians

Michael Allen showed that he is likely to be a key player for Watsonians this season with a hat-trick of tries in the preseason win at Tynedale on Saturday.

The former Edinburgh Rugby centre led the way in the 38-21 victory in the north-east of England, also kicking two conversion­s. Mark Bertram, Mike Fedo and Ewan Fox also scored tries, with the latter adding two conversion­s. Boroughmui­r, who had impressed in their own round robin event the previous week, won 55-7 at Dundee HSFP.

Glasgow Hawks put in a good performanc­e on the road at Blaydon as they continued their preparatio­n for the new season with a 39-33 win.

The match was being played as a curtain raiser to the Newcastle Falcons v Rotherham Titans clash and it was very entertaini­ng.

The visitors from old an ni esland scored four tries and two conversion­s in the first half to lead 24-12. Another three tries put Hawks further in the driving seat before a late salvo by the hosts in the north-east of England, but the Scots held on.

Rob kay grabbed a converted try for Heriot’s , but it was a tough afternoon at Darlington Mowden Park. The hosts ran in ten tries as they won 68-7.
