Aberdeen May blossoms

- Steve Wilson

I promised myself I wouldn’t go on like a stuck record about Graeme Shinnie’s omission every time there’s a Scotland squad announced so I’ll move on( but I reserve the right to revisit the situation during the international break).

Giving Stevie May the number 83 and thus prompting the sale of numerous May 83 replica shirts was a marketing coup.

Having made that decision, it was almost inevitable that on his home debut May would score his first Aberdeen goal in the 11th minute. For those under a certain age, 11 May 1983 was the day that we beat Real Madrid in Gothenburg to win the first of our two European trophies. Regardless of what he does over the next four years, May has endeared himself to the fans with the timing of that first goal.
