Motherwell Gifts galore

- Derek Wilson

A win from what looked like a failing performance highlighted the way I’m convinced most games in our league are won and lost. We did nothing truly suicidal. Ross County, on the other hand, gave us the opening goal, as we have handed out gifts in previous games. Then they missed a gimme, just as we did against Rangers – so they lose a close one, we win a close one.

I’ve a theory that people are so used to watching high-quality games on TV, they take the attributes needed to win at that level and assume it’s the same here. It rarely applies. If your defence doesn’t score an own goal or present the opposition with a gift, you stay in the game then, as often as not, they will hand it to you on a plate with a mistake of their own.
