Curling academy to build on Olympic success

Scotland’s first curling academy has been opened to help build on recent Olympic success.

The £3.15 million facility in Stirling will ensure Team Scotland, Team GB and Paralympic­sgb athletes have year-round access to high-quality ice.

In 2014, the British men’s team won a silver medal and the women took bronze in the Sochi Winter Olympics while 12 years earlier the women’s team won gold. More than 1,000 skeletons found buried in Aberdeen city centre are to be finally re-interred after funding was secured to build a new crypt.

The skeletons – and the remains of 1,000 more Aberdonian­s – were first found more than ten years ago as excavation work got underway at the medieval site of St Nicholas East Kirk, also known as Mither Kirk.
