‘One punch’ warning in anti-violence campaign

- By GRAEME MURRAY

A single punch can ruin two lives and result in a jail sentence, a new police anti-violence campaign has warned.

In 2015-2016, 12 per cent of recorded violent crime in Scotland involved a single punch and police called on people to think about the consequences of violence.

The four-week drive launched at the Garage nightclub in Glasgow yesterday forms part of Police Scotland’s safe summer scheme.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Williams said: “One punch can kill and could result in you facing a jail sentence. I want people to enjoy their nights-out but at the same time to drink responsibly.”

Avoiding drinking in rounds, slowing down alcohol intake and walking away from confrontations can help avert violence, according to police.
