Sepal rings up Lanark Bell win
Trainer Jardine’s delight as filly takes home top prize
Sepal romped away with the Ladbrokes Lanark Silver Bell at Hamilton Park last night.
The Iain Jardine-trained filly, sent off at 7-2, was completing an 11-day hat-trick as Jamie Gormley brought her home three-and-a-half lengths clear of Brimham Rocks.
Jardine said: “Jamie gave her a lovely ride and with his 7lb claim she must have thought she was running loose. She’s had three quick runs so she’ll have a wee break and then we’ll look for something like a Listed race.”
Clon Coulis produced a nice turn of foot to land the EBF Stallions Scottish Premier Series Fillies’ Handicap.
Owned and bred by Colette Twomey, the 11-10 favourite slammed Rutherford by twoand-a-half lengths under a cool ride from Ben Curtis. Twomey said: “Obviously I know her family very well and I was delighted with that. I’m not not sure where she runs after this but it was a very good performance.”
At York, Frankie Dettori was left stunned as Lady Aurelia was nabbed on the line by Marsha in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
The Italian had raised his arm in triumph after passing the post on the American speedster, the 10-11 favourite, only to hear the judge announce Marsha as the winner by a nose.
Dettori said: “I’m in shock, I thought I’d won a neck.”
Marsha’s owners, Elite Racing Club, were understandably delighted to see the Sir Mark Prescott-trained four-yearold return to top form under Luke Morris, and a repeat win intheprixdel’abbayewillnow be the objective, for which she is the 2-1 favourite with Paddy Power.
Prescott was in Ireland, where he said: “To finish in front of Lady Aurelia on a flat track is a great performance.”
