Warning over impact of indyref2 fears on TV channel
Nicola Sturgeon was warned that figures within the television industry saw the threat of Scottish independence as a reason for Channel 4 not moving from London to Scotland.
At the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Ms Sturgeon spoke of her enthusiasm for the broadcaster making the move. Glasgow and several English cities have expressed interest in becoming Channel 4’s new home.
But David Strachan of Tern TV said he had heard “whispers” that the possibility of independence was being cited as an “excuse” for companies not devoting more resources to Scotland.
Ms Sturgeon dismissed the notion as “ridiculous”.
“I am fairly confident we will still watch television in an independent Scotland,” she said.
