Demanding Accies in with a shout

Hamilton defender Scott Mcmann reckons Accies’ second-half shouting match provesthey’reupforthefightthisseason.

Martin Canning’s team battled back for a point against Kilmarnock on Saturday after falling two goals down.

But the comeback came only after angry scenes in the wake of the second Killie goal scored by Lee Erwin, when midfielder Darrian Mackinnon let rip at team-mate Xavier Tomas for not stopping the Rugby Park striker before he lobbed home.

“The gaffer likes to see that, he likes to see us not accepting a mistake,” said leftback Mcmann. “It’s not about slaughtering someone, but it’s about making demands of them. We are setting a standard and we’re trying to maintain that, so I think that’s a positive.”

Hamilton are now up to fourth place after following up wins over Dundee and Hibernian with another valuable point. Louis Longridge’s early own goal and a tidy Erwin finish put the hosts two goals up with an hour played but Giannis Skondras gave the visitors a lifeline and Ali Crawford tucked away a late penalty.

“I’m delighted to come away with a point,” added Mcmann. “We were looking for the win but, given the circumstances and being 2-0 down, it was a great point. It feels like we’ve got a bit of momentum building now.”

Kilmarnock have started the season with four home games, but have now collected just one point. New signing Stuart Findlay, who has signed a sixmonth loan deal from Newcastle, says it’s too early to press the panic button.

“We’ve played Celtic, Hearts and St Johnstone, who are all big clubs, and now a Hamilton side who have started the season well,” Findlay explained.

“Four home games isn’t as easy as it sounds. “If we can get a full 90-minute performance and get that first win, we have got the quality in the dressing room that will ensure we can push on. The season hasn’t started the way we want, but I’m certain that things will turn around quickly.”
