Raith Rovers romped to a 5-0 derby win at East Fife, the result lifting the Kirkcaldy men into top spot.

Bobby Barr scored after five minutes when he squeezed a shot past Ryan Goodfellow and Lewis Vaughan headed the second 15 minutes later. The points were on the way to Stark’s Park when Greig Spence also scored with a header six minutes from half-time.

Liam Buchanan nodded in a free-kick midway through the second half and Vaughan again showed his potency when he drilled in the fifth. Raith manager Barry Smith said: “It was a great win and a great performance but we will not be getting carried away. This win will mean more to the fans but it is worth just the same three points.”

“It is nice to be top but it is not something that overly interests me at the moment.”

Home boss Darren Young said: “To lose five goals from crosses into our box sums up our day.”

Ayr United dropped their first points of the season when they went down 2-1 to Arbroath at Somerset Park. Chris Higgins side-footed home three minutes from the break to give Ayr the lead, but Omar Kader netted from close range in first-half injury time.

The winner came just before the hour through a delightful lofted effort by Mark Whatley from 20 yards.

Experienced defender Marc Fitzpatrick took Airdrie from the sidelines for their home game with Alloa and the move worked, thediamondsracking up a 2-0 win.

Ryan Conroy drilled a penalty on 16 minutes and the win was secured two minutes from the end when Jake Hastie ran on to a headed pass to score.

Albion Rovers bounced back from the disappointment of being thrown out of the Irnbru Cup by winning 2-0 at Forfar. Alan Trouten swept the Coatbridge men into the lead on 34 minutes and when the Loons’ Matthew Aitken was dismissed with six minutes left Connor Shields quickly cracked in the second.

Queen’s Park came back from two down to earn their first point in a 2–2 draw with visitors Stranraer. Long-distance strikes by Ryan Wallace and Grant Anderson had the Blues two up after nine minutes but Anton Brady gave the Spiders hope before half-time with a low drive.

After twice hitting the woodwork, a leveller arrived in injury time when Morgyn Neill turned a cross into his own net.
