First-half romp at Peterhead maintains Stirling’s 100% record

-

Stirling Albion’s perfect start continued with a 4-2 success at the home of a Peterhead side tipped to romp away with the title.

Paul Cairney gave the Blue Toon an early lead, but by half-time the visitors were 4-1 ahead through Calumn Morrison, a Darren Smith double and Ross Kavanagh. Rory Mcallister’s penalty pulled a goal back eight minutes after the restart and the visiting Peter Macdonald had a penalty saved before Balmoor defender Scott Ross was dismissed.

Stirling manager Dave Mackay said: “We were sloppy but then everything clicked into a high gear.” Ross’s dismissal looks to have been costly. Said Peterhead boss Jim Mcinally: “As long as I am here he will not play.”

Montrose moved into second place with a 1-0 success at Annan where Paul Watson’s header proved decisive.

Edinburgh City still seek their first point after losing 3-0 at home to Elgin City. Lewis Strapp, brian Cameron and Jordan Allan were on target, while City lost Craig Thomson to two yellow cards.

Managerless Berwick Rangers enjoyed a 1-0 win at Cowdenbeath, Aaron Murrell heading the winner in the first half, while Clyde and Stenhousemuir played drew 1-1 at Broadwood. Mark Mcguigan gave the Warriors the lead after 31 minutes and Clyde skipper Kevin Nicoll headed the equaliser.
