Alex Salmond in discussion­s to take his Fringe show on tour

Former first minister Alex Salmond is in talks to take his sellout Edinburgh Fringe show on tour, it has been revealed.

The politician, who was ousted from Westminste­r in June’s snap general election, took to the stage with a series of special guests i n his show Alex Salmond... Unleashed.

After 19 performanc­es at the world famous ar ts festival – wi th p e r f o r man ce s r a i s i n g more than £ 23,000 for charity – the former SNP leader said: “That’s all folks... for now.”

He ad d e d : “T h e s h ow ha s b een at r emendous s uccess an d w e ha v e we l c o m e d a host of amazing guests to the Fringe stage, raising money for good causes far and wide.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time treading the boards a t th e Fe s t i v a l an d I re l - 0 Alex Salmond is ready to unleash his show on tour i shed being Alex S almond... Unleashed f or 19 shows in a row.

“Thank you to all the backroom staff involved in such a top- class production. That’s all – but only for now!”

Gu e s t s o n M r Sa l m o n d ’s s h ow ove ri t s r u n i n c l u d e d politician­s such as Brexit Secretar y David Davis, as well as Hi b s ma n a g e r an d fo r m e r Celtic footballer Neil Lennon and comedian John Bishop.

The last show featured Scot- t is h Br e x i t mi n i s t e r Mi k e Russell as well as a surprise appearance by singer Sheena Wellington, who performed th e R o b e r t B u r n s c l a s s i c A Ma n’s A Ma n Fo r A’ Th a t , which she sang at the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999.

Ta sm i n a Ah m e d - S h e i k h , the former SNP MP who produced t he s how, c onf i r med talks were taking place with a view to taking it on the road.

She s ai d: “This has be e n a fantastic production all round and the city of Edinburgh has been a great host.

“After a variety of enquiries and requests, we are now in discussion­s to take Alex Salmond ... Unleashed on tour, so watch this space!”

Mr Salmond caused controvers­y on his opening performanc­e by making a joke about having sex with female politician­s.
