Fallon hails port base deal during Oman trip
Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon has hailed relations with Oman after a visit to the Middle East state.
Sir Michael said a multimillion-pound development deal at Duqm Port that would give the UK a maritime base east of Suez was proof of the two countries’ partnership.
The Defence Secretary said :“Oman is along-standing British ally and we work closely across diplomatic, economic and security matters.
“Our commitment to the Duqm port project highlights the strength of our relationship.”
The UK Joint Logistics Support Base at Duqm Port will allow the UK to “shape the development of the naval facility to support its carrier capability and wider British security needs in the region ”, the MOD said.
