Fallon hails port base deal during Oman trip

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon has hailed relations with Oman after a visit to the Middle East state.

Sir Michael said a multimilli­on-pound developmen­t deal at Duqm Port that would give the UK a maritime base east of Suez was proof of the two countries’ partnershi­p.

The Defence Secretary said :“Oman is along-standing British ally and we work closely across diplomatic, economic and security matters.

“Our commitment to the Duqm port project highlights the strength of our relationsh­ip.”

The UK Joint Logistics Support Base at Duqm Port will allow the UK to “shape the developmen­t of the naval facility to support its carrier capability and wider British security needs in the region ”, the MOD said.
